Literary works by Mikhail Bulgakov have long been of particular interest in Poland. He has been one of the best known and most valued Russian writers in our country. His novel Master and Margarita was chosen the best 20th century work of world literature in the "End of the Century Canon" published by the Rzeczpospolita daily in 1999. Bulgakov's literary output has also attracted interest among Polish philologists, including Andrzej Drawicz, employed at the Jagiellonian University in the 1980s, who was the author of the monograph Mistrz i diabeł (Master and the devil) and translated Master and Margarita into Polish.

Nowadays, when the cultures of different nations between the Atlantic and the Urals are becoming closer to one another, it is possible to view Bulgakov and his works from an entirely new perspective. This has created a need for a platform for discussion and creative reflection on the modern-day reading of the great Russian writer and thinker.
